Our Mission
The Lake Ballinger Center, established as the Mountlake Terrace Community Senior Center was established to provide senior services and activities for the recreational, intellectual, physical and emotional needs of aging adults. Our mission is to provide for the physical, emotional, intellectual and economic well being of aging adults through a variety of activities, services and opportunities for participation, learning and socializing, both at the Center and elsewhere. We seek to provide the community with a vision of aging as a period of life to look forward to and enjoyed.
FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
The Lake Ballinger Center serves a growing population of aging adults in the city of Mountlake Terrace and the surrounding areas. The percentage of Mountlake Terrace residents age 50 and over is currently 29.4% ; that is projected to increase to 45% within 10 years. 15% of the city population lives below the poverty level. Established in 1997 as the Mountlake Terrace Senior Group, our organization has grown from a small group of friends having lunch and playing cards to outgrowing our 800 square foot activity center now known as the Mountlake Terrace Community Senior Center.
In November 2013 we agreed to a partnership with the City of Mountlake Terrace and relocated to the 7,000 sq/ft Mickey Corso Clubhouse in Ballinger Park. We promote wellness of mind, body and spirit for aging adults without regard for race, creed, color, national origin or sexual orientation. We provide facilities and essential services to meet the recreational, intellectual, physical and mental health needs of aging adults.
We seek to improve the quality of life for aging adults in our community by providing an enlivened, friendly environment promoting health and wellness. Our goal is to help people continue to grow and eliminate the plagues of loneliness, helplessness and boredom; thereby succeeding where pills and other therapies may fail.
